Renowned cardiologist Maulik Majmudar, MD, is joining Amazon as the tech giant continues its push into the health sector, CNBC reports.
Dr. Majmudar tweeted his decision to join Amazon Aug. 20. He previously served as a cardiologist and associate director of the healthcare transformation lab at Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital and lectured at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.
It’s not clear which team he will be joining, as Amazon has numerous health-related efforts, but Dr. Majmudar called his new post an “exciting and challenging role.” Some of Dr. Majmudar’s work could be with Amazon’s Grand Challenges team, a research and development group working on various projects including medical records and telemedicine, CNBC suggests.

“HCI is thrilled with Dr. Majmudar joining the Amazon team! It is empowering to see a top medical professional join the tech giant to work on new technologies that will serve communities world wide. It is uncertain which role he will play in the company, however it will be a positive addition! Telemedicine is a passion and a focus in our company. We enjoy working in rural areas to provide imaging solutions for these under served communities. HCI has seen a need for telemedicine for many years and we are looking forward to what the future holds.”
